The Psychology Podcast with Barry Kaufman

Barry Kaufman talks to Richard Tedeschi about Post Traumatic Growth (PTG.) This is a great episode of The Psychology Podcast. If we can reframe how we think about things we will never feel like a victim. Even if we are a victim the important thing is to never feel like a victim. Thoughts become things. We are more likely to become victimized over and over if we let that feeling take over. We need to use traumatic experiences to grow and become a better stronger human. Reframe your thinking to post traumatic growth. Use the experience to grow.

my heart's been ripped out

I just have to push through. I have to go on and know that the future will be better. My oldest son turned 21 and not seeing him was the hardest most hurtful day ever. Every birthday has been hard. Every holiday just sadness. On the positive, he will grow and his brain will develop more into an adult. Then he will know the truth. The truth always comes out in the end. Right? Since he's been gone here has not been one day that I don't feel like my heart has been ripped out.

everything will be okay

Phoenix police came to our apartment looking for our youngest child, Sonny who was 18 months at the time. Sonny was at his Great Grandma and Great Grandpa's house at the time. Police barged in with their guns drawn yelling at me, "Where's your boyfriend?!!" Gabe is Sonny's father. He was in the bathroom and when he came out police put a gun to his head. I remember the officer was holding the gun sideways pointed right at his head demanding our child.        Within an hour later Phoenix police went to Sonny's Great Grandma and Great Grandpa's house. This was happening in a senior citizen golf community. Police had no right to come in without a warrant and h...
